NASmare update.

Finally, the eBay suppler, Safekom, have come back to me with how to hard reset the caddy. Link two holes on the board, wait 10 seconds and the software should be reset. I tried it and it worked first time, it was just a case of knowing which two points to short. So the caddy reset and the default user name and password worked, after two weeks I logged in! Here's the pic of how to reset the caddy:-

Sigh -just when I thought I was getting somewhere the caddy still doesn't recognise the installed drive in NAS mode. It works fine as USB and details of the drive can be read and Windows 7 recognises the FAT32 format. So now what? I had another trick up my sleeve and against my better judgement and with much trepidation, I removed the 250Gb drive fitted in my Windows 7 pc and fitted it in the caddy. The plan was that I could check the function of the caddy to see if it recognised the drive without formatting it. Seeing as there is a format function included in the caddy you have to assume that this should work. The drive powered up OK but still no joy. With much relief I re-installed the drive back in my PC and Windows fired up again without issue. Phew!

Anyway, sent another email off to Safecom. Surely they have to replace the drive now? Trouble is I flashed the firmware and they will be able to see that I had done it. Mmmm, tricky.

NASmare continues.

  1. Hello,

I have recently bought the same drive, and also flashed it with an updated firmware, and am also locked out now, what were the two pins you used to reset to the default username/password?

    Thanks,

  2. Hi Dylin,

I've updated the blog with a picture of the Reset pins. I should have done that in the first place.

    Good Luck!

  4. Hi again,

I managed to fix it, i didn't realise that to do this it had to be switched off, then short the holes and whilst shorted, switch it on, remain holding for 10 seconds and release.

I used a staple to short the holes incase others are wondering (it was the closest thing on hand) Username and Password admin/admin, this happened after a faulty upgrade using Gearbox 1.3 firmware, now all is good and samba finally works great!

    Thanks for the info Andy

  5. Hi all I stupidly bought one of these too and am locked out after an update - if I get no joy I will have to try the short circuit method. I bought it solely for the purpose of downloading torrents with the built in bit torrent client - has anyone got this to work? it wouldnt work at all which is why i tried updating the firmware.

  6. Just got mine and have got a 2TB Seagate installed fine. It's at Firmware 1.51; is this the best or should I upgrade? I did test the BT client and that seems to work fine Andrew.

  7. Thankyou so much for this, i flashed my pluscom 35-nas 3282 with firmware version 1.63a and i couldht access the drive via my browser. admin/admin was not working.
took apart the box and used a paperclip to short the 2 holes held for 20 seconds to be sure then pulled it off and accessed it through my browser with no username or password. now i just changed the firmware again to version 1.64b all seems to be working fine
